OPETH Frontman 'Feeling Much Better'; Band To Resume Touring This Weekend
July 1, 2008Swedish metallers OPETH were recently forced to cancel their appearances at the Peace & Love (Borlänge, Sweden on June 26),Hovefestivalen (Norway on June 27),Metaltown (Gothenborg, Sweden on June 28),and Graspop Metal Meeting (Dessel, Belgium on June 29) festivals after the group's guitarist/vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt contracted varicella (chicken pox). Mikael has since issued the following update on the band's upcoming touring activities:
"Just to avoid any confusion, I want to confirm that I'm feeling much better and OPETH will be performing the remaining summer festivals that we've committed to, starting with Ruisrock [in Turku, Finland] this Saturday [July 5]."
"Watershed", the new album from OPETH, sold more than 19,000 copies of in the United States in its first week of release.
"Watershed" is the follow-up to the band's acclaimed "Ghost Reveries" CD, which debuted at No. 64 on the Billboard chart back in September 2005 with first-week sales of just under 15,000. OPETH's 2003 album, "Damnation", opened with a little over 5,000 copies.
"Ghost Reveries" has sold more than 95,000 copes in the United States since its 2005 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
